Junior Members Corner
Dear Juniors,
EAACI Congress 2026 in Istanbul once again provided an outstanding opportunity for Junior Members to engage with the latest advances in allergy and clinical immunology while connecting with colleagues from across Europe and beyond. Bringing together clinicians, scientists and healthcare professionals from a wide range of disciplines, the congress fostered an inspiring environment for scientific exchange, collaboration and professional development.
For many Junior Members, the congress represented far more than attending lectures. It offered the opportunity to present research, discuss new ideas with internationally recognised experts, receive valuable feedback and build collaborations with peers from different institutions and countries. Dedicated sessions organised by the Junior Member Assembly (JMA) encouraged lively discussions on emerging topics across the specialty, providing an interactive platform for learning, exchanging experiences and showcasing the high-quality research being conducted by Junior Members.
Alongside the scientific programme, the JMA supported a range of educational and networking initiatives designed to promote the professional development of early-career members. Activities such as the EAACI Allergy College, the Clinical Research Challenge and the Junior Members Mentorship Programme created opportunities to strengthen mentoring relationships, develop new skills and establish international connections that often continue well beyond the congress itself. Together, these initiatives reflect EAACI’s continued commitment to supporting the next generation of allergy and clinical immunology professionals.
Perhaps the greatest strength of the EAACI Congress is the sense of community it creates. Whether attending for the first time or returning as experienced participants, Junior Members have the opportunity to become part of a collaborative international network united by a shared passion for research, education and improving patient care. We look forward to welcoming even more Junior Members to future EAACI meetings and encourage you to make the most of the many opportunities the JMA and the wider Academy provide throughout the year.
Best regards,
The Junior Member Assembly
EAACI Patients Organisation Committee Corner
HIGHLIGHTS FROM PAAM 2025
A group of ten Patient Organisations Committee (POC) members gathered at this wonderful venue in Palau de Congressos de Palma, Mallorca for 2025 Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Focused Meeting. Many had speaker slots giving lived experience perspectives of having children living with allergy and risk of anaphylaxis. So the EAACI PAAM Congress theme of ‘Inspiring insights for every family’ really resonated with us.
As POC, we are with EAACI to help where we can and it brings the science to a person experience, centred level. We had members a wide range of participants from Chile, USA, Turkey, UK, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Italy, Greece and Spain as POC has 36 POC members in 24 countries.
Our Chair, Ozlem Ceylan, gave an overview at the Opening Ceremony on why EAACI awareness campaigns matter, from awareness to action, so patients can feel heard and patient organisations can help lobby for policy change in their country.
POC participated in the Student Awareness Day that was set to educate 40 students aged 14-16 about allergic diseases and emergency response, with the local organising committee’s support.
One of our POC members, Esther Esteban Arroyo opened “The sister society session” with SEICAP and introduced their patient organisation, AEPNAA and their activities in Spain.
Mikaela Odemyr from Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association joined the Anaphylaxis session with a heartfelt talk, “When My Child Had Anaphylaxis: Expectations vs. Reality”. Fallon Schultz from IFPIES USA, gave a wonderful talk on parents’ perspective of dealing with a child’s FPIES journey and introduced their resources to support caregivers. On the last day of PAAM, Maria Zioga from Greece, gave a great talk, “From panic to preparedness: Building trust and resilience in food allergy care” and highlighted the importance of safety for food allergic children.
