Original Articles: Food Allergy and Gastrointestinal Disease

Food allergy and gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are significant health concerns affecting millions of people worldwide. Food allergies occur when the immune system reacts to specific proteins in food, leading to a range of symptoms from mild itching to life-threatening anaphylaxis. GI diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), celiac disease, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), affect the digestive tract and can cause symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and malabsorption.

In recent years, there has been a rise in the prevalence of food allergies and GI diseases globally. Environmental factors, changes in diet, and alterations in the gut microbiome are believed to contribute to this increase. Research into the underlying mechanisms of food allergy and GI diseases is ongoing, with a focus on improving diagnosis and developing more effective treatments.
